On Energy Healing

Reiki is one of many energy healing practices which have been used all over the world for thousands of years. It involves the channelling of Universal Life Energy (otherwise be known as Prana, Chi, Ki, and by many other names) with the Practitioner having been attuned to certain symbols which facilitate the process of channelling this Universal Life Energy (the Practitioner is not the creator or originator of the healing energy) for the physical, emotional, mental, and/or spiritual healing of the recipient. The practice of Reiki came through, and was developed by, Dr Mikao Usui (1865-1926) near Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the best known energy healing practices in the modern world and is used in mainstream modern medical establishments, even in the west, as a complementary therapy. As a Practitioner it is predominantly a subconscious process, and ultimately we do not direct the type of healing to come through. A given intention can be held for a session by the Practitioner and Recipient, however, the energies that do come through will be whatever is in the best and highest and best good of the Recipient. Reiki can be performed with hands lightly-on, hands-off, or at a distance of many thousands of miles. There is nothings that the Recipient has to "do" during a session except lie down, relax, and have the intention of being open to receive healing energies.

Energy healing happens on what may be called a “quantum level” i.e. a subatomic level, where normal space and time restrictions and laws do not apply. This is why energy healing can occur at such vast distances from the Practitioner. The majority of recipients experience noticeable sensations during the session and immediately following it e.g. warm sensations, deep relaxation, visions, and then noticeable effects in the days following the session. I personally find it a very powerful form of healing which is why I choose to mostly work with distance healing, although I do also perform in-person healing.

Please note that having a cardiac Pacemaker and/or defibrillator and being intoxicated i.e. drug and alcohol intoxication, are contraindications to Reiki and I will be unable to perform Reiki without written consent from your General Medical Practitioner.


On Health Coaching

Health Coaching is a very holistic modality that looks at physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of a person and how these are integrating to form their sense of wellbeing.  It takes a highly individualised approach, believing no two people are the same, and that their paths vibrant wellbeing will be different.  It also draws on a number of different schools of thought on health and wellbeing, picking parts applicable to each client on an individual basis.  The goal is to see a client not only achieve a holistic state of health and wellbeing, but to also have the skills, self-understanding, and self-love needed to carry this throughout the rest of their life.  Generally speaking, the majority of people have some idea of what food and lifestyle choices are good for them.  However, many still make choices that are not serving their own good.  A large part of the Health Coaching process is uncovering the reasons why this is the case, creating awareness around these beliefs and behaviours, and empowering the person to move beyond them.

I'm not an easy client for coaching - I like complete freedom. And I'm good at rationalising, justifying or avoiding things.  As such, the idea of working with a coach made me a little apprehensive, though at the same time, I was curious to see what I would unfold in the process.

I felt quick-tempered, stressed and at times, worthless on a regular basis. I needed to help myself as my family had begun to suffer because of me.  I began to worry that my poor attitude would rub off onto my young influential children.  I’d never forgive myself if this happened. 

When my dear friend Sophia began her holistic counseling approach of physical and mental wellbeing, I decided I needed her help.  While working with Sophia, we uncovered the core of my lack of self-confidence, and daily stressors that interfered with, and brought out the worst in me.  Through taking on Sophia's carefully planned out weekly advice, activities and in-depth dietary recommendations, I began seeing things from a more positive perspective.  I began to feel happier, more in control of my attitude, and more confident.  I learnt how to beat negative self-talk and feelings through her support and advice. 

Evidently, my sleep and eating habits play a huge role in my wellbeing, so we focused on both.  Sophia introduced me to healthier delicious alternatives to assist in the increase of my daily vegetable intake.  We also discussed my sleeping routine at length, making adjustments in order to combat sleep deprivation. 

Sophia's in-depth sessions broke down and tackled central issues I was battling, successfully.  Her ongoing communication via emails provided incredible support.  I now feel more centered, confident and calmer.  I feel I can handle and fight off negative self-talk through mindful tips Sophia helped me discover.  More importantly than anything else, the bond with my daughter has only intensified through my over-all more positive calm attitude.
